THE CHALLENGE

KOK were appointed by Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe to act as Principal Designer and Client CDM Advisors on the £8m bespoke offices fit out project to the disused Liverpool Daily Post and Echo Offices within Liverpool city centre.

The project was completed in January 2022 by Principal Contractor ADT Workplace.

The client brief was to design a high-class offices accommodation in keeping with the Sony brand and be a ‘fantastic place to create, collaborate, connect and have fun’.

The PlayStation Liverpool office is home to an XDEV unit, which develops first-party games developed externally.

KEY CONSIDERATIONS

A key challenge for CDM was the fact that the offices are within the same building as the new INNSiDE Hotel which was also being fitted out by a different Principal Contractor at the same time.

As the design progressed KOK in conjunction with the design team, produced a project hazard register to provide a clear indication of significant hazards and the design team response to eliminating or controlling those risks as the design developed and worked closely with the appointed Principal Contractor to develop the Construction Phase Plan.

THE OUTCOME & RESULTS

Detailed discussions were required between the Principal Contractors, Landlord and Client representatives to devise and agree detailed logistics plans.

This ensured that the two separate CDM projects remained discrete whilst ensuring that construction logistics and access/egress arrangements remained robust for the duration of the works.

Successfully coordinated health and safety matters throughout the life of the project. CDM regulations were adhered to and all client duties discharged.
